K-pop - Awesome Summer 2013 Comebacks

Hello again! This time I'll be talking about some of the Kpop comebacks that have really impressed me recently, and also some of the comebacks I'm really anticipating :D

Like my last post, I guess I'll start out with some of my history with K-pop. I've been an avid K-pop fan for... maybe 3 and a half? not quite 4 years yet.... During this time, I've become a fan of many, many groups. My playlist is a huge mix of lotsa artists. It's not super diverse to the point where you can't locate some similarities in the type of music I seem to enjoy, but I do like many songs from many groups.

I'm going to compose this list chronologically, starting from May :)

May
1. B1A4 - What's Going On?

After their last release, "Tried To Walk" which I loved, I'm surprised I enjoyed their recent come back so much. The song is still going strong on my playlist, which is hard because a lot of the songs I listen to have a pretty short shelf life. Another song I really like from this album is "Starlight's Song"

"Yesterday" is pretty good too. :)

Actually, I think a lot of B1A4's music is pretty good, but they still haven't had that one breakthrough song yet. Oh well, it triggers the anticipation and keeps their comebacks intriguing (not that Kpop groups who have already had their breakthrough aren't intriguing...)

2. VIXX - hyde
I've been a VIXX fan since they released "Rock Ur Body." That was just a really fun song. After I became interested in them, I went back and listened to their debut album, which I learned to enjoy too. I couldn't really stand Ravi's English... "English" intros to their songs, so it was kinda hard for me to warm up to them, but I've gotten past that. Anyway, it looks like VIXX will be taking the intense and dark route from now on. I feel like they've gained a lot of fans especially since "On and On" and they're doing alright with "hyde" too. I'm not sure I absolutely love the dark concepts, since I liked "Rock Ur Body" sooooo much... but they're still releasing listenable, catchy songs... So I guess why not? Plus Ken & Leo can really belt out those notes. I also went and watched their pre-debut documentary and some of their MTV Diary episodes (the ones that are actually Eng subbed... ><). It's kinda hard not to like them, especially since Jellyfish releases a "VIXX TV" episode every week :)

Here is VIXX - Rock Ur Body btw

3. Wonder Boyz - Tarzan
I am addicted to this song. It's like my jam right now! Funny thing is, I never would have checked out the mv/song if it wasn't for Eat Your Kimchi's Kpop Chart Updates. I was curious once I heard Martina talk about the song. I've sorta been trying to cut down on the rookie-loving these days, so that's why I didn't check it out for myself when it first came out. But I'm so glad I did! Because I really really love this song :) One thing that I'd like to mention is that I find this group's make up really... odd. There are 4 members, and 3 of them are pretty average K-pop boys, but the leader, Bak Chi Gi, sticks out like a sore thumb. I don't mean this in an offensive way, but it's just different to see a face in K-pop that diverges from the majority. Anyway, they seem cool, haha and I really like this song.

4. MBLAQ - Smoky Girl
Girl smoky girl smoky girl smoky girl girl smoky girl smoky girl smoky girl~ This song is so freaking catchy. I love watching the mv along with it too, cuz the choreography is a work of art. I especially like that feet-dragging part during that part with no lyrics in the beginning. Love. I feel bad for MBLAQ. I've watched them ever since they debuted alongside B2st, but their releases never seem to have that breakthrough power. I really thought by the time they released "Stay" and "Cry" they woulda hit jackpot. And when that didn't happen, I thought "Mona Lisa" (which I freaking LOVED btw, the whole album + the title track) would do it for them. But nope. Never thought "It's War" would do it for them tbh. But this comeback is pretty good.. and they've earned a good bit of popularity from Joon on We Got Married and Mir on Law of the Jungle and Real Men... but somehow, it's just not happening. I really wonder what exactly is wrong here :/ Sigh, either way, I'm enjoying their comeback.

5. Sistar - Give it to Me
Sistar is one of those pretty rare girl groups that I love. Yes, I do love them but I don't necessarily love this song. I mean it's alright... but I think I'd feel a little awkward listening to girls sing "give it to me, oh baby give it to me" all day :s No, it's not on my playlist. But I can see why a lot of people enjoy it. Personally, I like their 2012 releases "Alone" and "Loving U" a lot more. Even Sistar19's "Gone, Not Around Any Longer" is higher up on my personal list than "Give it to Me." That's alright though, cuz just because I like a group, doesn't mean I have to love every single one of their releases.

Onto some impending comebacks (in no particular order):

1. B2st/Beast
I adore B2st. They're one of the groups I think I'll love regardless of how much time has passed by, or how many other new groups I seem to love. I've also followed them since debut, so they sorta hold a really special place in my kpop fangirl heart :P
Their preleases for their July comeback are both really good.

Will You Be Alright?
It's amazing how this song won on music shows even though they didn't promote it at all, and they just released it as a precursor to their upcoming comeback. The B2uty fandom is really something.

I'm Sorry
I don't think I like this song quite as much as "Will You Be Alright" but it's still a really pretty song. And plus, at least I can enjoy some of  their music before they actually come back.

2. B.A.P - Coffee Shop
I'm a huge B.A.P fangirl. Yongguk already impressed me a lot pre-B.A.P. I loved his part in Song Ji Eun's (Secret) solo, "Going Crazy" and in his own solo "I Remember" ft Yoseob (B2st). I loved their debut song "Warrior." Even though it's not a really catchy, list-topping kind of song, I love the fact that they debuted with a strong image. Their releases after "Warrior" were sort of underwhelming because it seems like they can't top the epic-ness that was "Warrior." But they are coming back with 3 title tracks this time around and I hope they can finally win #1 on some music shows :)
Anyway, I really love "Coffee Shop." I'm already hooked from that first listen and it makes me even more curious about what's to come!

3. Infinite - :: d e s t i n y ::

If you don't already know, I consider myself to be an Inspirit. I am a devoted Inspirit. Infinite is my favorite Kpop group at the moment. I knew they were gonna comeback soon, since I heard about them filming an mv at Universal Studios, but the news has finally manifested itself in an official form from Woollim! I can't wait :) Infinite has never disappointed me, and I doubt they're going to start now. I'm really curious about the concept/song/album they're releasing this time. Sigh, I guess we can only wait >_< So excited! I hope Gyu's "controversy" doesn't affect the group so much. =_= Yes, he was wrong. Yes, he made a mistake. But it was blown sooooo out of proportion. Not even funny. Actually, I'm sorta surprised Woollim is going ahead with the comeback and not waiting it out a bit more. :| Ah well, the sooner they comeback, the sooner I get to enjoy some new Infinite songs.

EDIT:
WOOOO they released a video teaser :D omg this comeback is gonna be epic!

4. 2ne1 - Falling in Love

FINALLY! 2ne1 is another one of those rare girl groups I love... and it really sucks that it's been over a year since they released "I Love You" (which I really liked btw) last year. They're finally coming back! Sheesh YG, took long enough. This better be good!!!

PHEW. K, I should get to bed. Bye! :)
