For this post I wanted to talk about some of the dramas I finished watching recently and give a short review of each.
1. Emergency Couple/응급남 (2014)
This is a pretty light hearted rom-com starring Choi Jin Hyuk (Heirs) and Song Ji Hyo (Running Man, Goong). Like most rom-coms, it gets a bit heavier near the end, but for the most part, this drama is fun to watch and enjoyable without being too complicated or intense.
It is a medical drama, though. And like all medical dramas, I always have to cover my eyes during the parts where they show the surgery or human insides. I really hate looking at that sort of stuff, it's kinda a phobia I have so I thought I'd give a warning to potential viewers of this drama.
I ended up liking all of the main cast members, so none of them are super annoying or anything like that.
Overall a fun, light hearted drama. Something you'd want to watch to just pass the time when you're in the mood for something that's not super serious.
2. Nine: Nine Times Time Travel/나인: 아홉 번의 시간여행 (2013)
Holy crap. This is easily one of the most, if not THE most intense drama I've ever watched. This is not a drama you can just casually watch for entertainment purposes. It'll have your heart beating like crazy at the extremely suspenseful moments and have you wishing with your life that the character(s) are alright. I actually started this drama last December/January, but I didn't get around to finishing it until the end of April/early May.
This is one of those dramas that you have to be in the mood to watch. Quite frankly, this drama will give you the biggest amount of mindfucks ever. Apparently it was named one of the best dramas of 2013, and I can see why. It's brilliantly thought out, scripted, cast and executed (both for directing and acting).
The actors also did a fantastic job. I especially fell in love with the main character, played by Lee Jin Wook (I Need Romance 2). All the other actors were good too, but I also enjoyed Park Hyung Sik's (ZE:A) performance as the younger version of the main character.
If you want to be psychologically thrilled and enjoy intense, suspenseful and brilliantly crafted dramas, you won't want to miss out on this one.
3. Inspiring Generation/감격시대 (2014)
I actually started watching this around January/February? I think around the time when You Who Came From The Star was nearing the end.
I was really, really into it for the first couple episodes. Kwak Dong Yeon, who played the younger version of the main character, did such a good job. It was an excellent casting choice. I found that he actually sorta looks like Kim Hyung Joong, who stars in this drama, too. I think Kim Hyun Joong's acting skills have definitely improved, as he's displayed through this drama. Of course, he still has a long way to go, but no longer is he the awkward and expressionless flower boy I knew from Boys Over Flowers and Mischievious Kiss.
Regardless, the storyline of this drama was lackluster. I think the budget for this drama was a ridiculous amount, considering all the sets and the huge amount of cast members. It could have been a really, really good drama - at least that's what I think. But apparently the original director quit half way through the series or something, so the second half the drama played out really weirdly. I ended up sticking through and watching the whole thing, though, because I felt like I already invested so much time into it that I might as well finish it. Overall, it's a very action packed drama with lots of fighting, an interesting, but somewhat poorly executed storyline and alright acting. Upon completion of the drama, I found myself liking Song Jae Rim's character more than Hyun Joong's. He was definitely my favorite character in this drama.
To sum it up... if you want to see Kim Hyun Joong's improved acting skills (or if you're a huge, huge fan of him), I'd recommend that you watch this drama. Otherwise... I wouldn't really waste my time with this one. When you get to the end, all you feel is disappointment and a sort of "ok... so what?" feeling.

That's all for the dramas that I've finished the most recently.
I do have an urge to talk about the dramas that I've finished before these, but that would be going back quite a while... to like the beginning of this year/ending of last year. I might do another post like this later, I guess :s I dunno. Depends on how I feel. I did watch "You Who Came From the Star" but I feel like there were so many people talking about that one that I don't really have to/want to. Meh. We'll see how I feel.
Coming up is another post about the dramas I'm watching currently and are currently airing. ^_^ Really excited.
Alrighty, see you soon.
